It may not always be possible to be in Paris, or go to Paris, but thanks to the White Swan label, we have French Bistro, a sophisticated mix of chill-out, jazz, and pop in the Gallic vein, to provide an undeniably cosmopolitan and tres chic vibe whenever it's most urgently needed. Tracks favor the piano-based jazz approach, as befits the title, from the electro-cabaret a la Jazzamor to the more traditional bebop-inflected chanteuse scatting of Chantal Chamberland. Standing by the strength of its Gallic convictions, lyrics are all in French, but the dusky emotions reach the core anyway, and blissful saxophone solos and dazzling ivory-tickling are the same in all languages.
